Our father and mentor Dawn passed to the Rainbow Bridge last night at the age of seventeen. We stayed on each side of him as he rested his fins on the floor of the pond. Lynettea told me she found us all in a row when she looked down in the twilight. Later she tried to put in a basket so Dawn could rest in that, but it didn't work out well and she had to take it out again. She was busy looking up things on the Internet to try to help Dawn.
We knew when he was gone from us and he was floating in a corner of The Pond this morning. Lynettea took him out with a big net and after the rain stopped she dug a grave for him in the garden near The Pond, beside a birdbath where the small birds sing and flutter and near a rosemary bush for Remembrance. She put some little slabs of slate on top of his burial mound.

OUR POEMS FOR DAWN
lonely in The Pond
I swim between stems
remembering
the touch of your scales
as we played in the splashings
Princess Aurora (Shubunkin)
falling rain
why have you gathered Dawn
from The Pond?
gazing up we see his tail
forming part of a rainbow
Streak (Shubunkin)
Dawn has left us
the rain forms teardrops
on waterlily leaves
