Diving down

Our new plants are multiplying across the pond. We are spending a lot of time swimming between the waterlily stems and enjoying one another's company. Lynettea calls out to us when she sprinkles the food. I think she misses us swimming around in the open, but she says she is happy to see us enjoying our waterworld jungle.

I have composed a Moon Haiku and entered it into the Haiku Bandit January moon viewing party. Diamond had a couple of his moon haiku selected for the moon viewing parties and Lynettea thought I might have a try. It is difficult following in Diamond's footsteps and my fins were all a flutter. Eventually, after a long pause for meditation, I thought of something and Lynettea tapped it in for me.

tribute plants

Here are some of our recent pictures. Lynettea bought me a special plant as a tribute to the memory of our dear Dawn. Here we all are investigating it. Lynettea says she thinks we like it. Well it is nice to have something different.

When Lynettea's neighbour Deb heard about Dawn's passing to the Rainbow Bridge, she brought in some plants from her beautiful water garden to cheer us up. Here is a picture of some of them. They have crinkly leaves. They float over the pond with their little roots hanging down to tickle our scales.

There are other plants which loll around under the water too and make water thickets for us. We think it is like living in a jungle. But Lynettea says she has left clearings on the surface and space underneath for us to enjoy our 'enriched environment'. So thanks very much to our caring neighbour Deb.

Our third waterlily for the summer came out and then disappeared again after a couple of days.

Lynettea wanted to put in a picture of Diamond's garden, as she thinks he might like to wander in it if he were here. We hope he has plenty of bushes and catnip plants at the Rainbow Bridge and Dawn has made some friends among the fish there.

It was hot a few days ago and we had our umbrella roof up again. The blue makes us think of the Ocean Pond, but we don't think travelling there would agree with us at all. Streak says that there might be sharks. So we will just think of the rolling ocean swell and the long currents that sweep from pole to Equator to pole while we surf in the splashings from our Dragon Guardian.

best wishes to all our friends

Joining In

Lynettea says I must be feeling better, as we are all swimming around together now. I still feel a bit different though, as I miss my friend Dawn in The Pond. He was such a big part of our lives. Lynettea went to the plant nursery and bought me a special water plant with pink flowers called a Rotala rotundifolia. It doesn't have any flowers on it now, but it has started growing very quickly. We like to swim around it, as the leaves branch out into the water. I will put a picture of it soon.

Streak has told me that she is also an older fish and may be as old as my father Dawn. She thinks she can remember coming to The Pond many years ago in a piece of water with plastic around it. Everything was distorted outside the little  piece of water and it made her feel giddy. Then the bagged water was rested on the surface of The Pond and after a while she found an opening at the bottom. She remembers swimming out into The Pond World, at first a bit nervous to explore.

Before that she remembers living in a glass water world. Lots of small fish, including Streak and Dawn, swam around showing themselves off to the human faces that came alongside the glass. Some were smiling faces and others were pointing and sometimes someone tapped on the glass. The pet shop person didn't like people doing that. He would drop food down into the water and they would all swoop on it. There was nothing much to do in the glass tank except swim swim swim back and forth, back and forth.  Before she was there she doesn't remember.
Thank you to all our friends who left us messages of sympathy.

Thank you for your kind thoughts. Dawn was my best friend as well as my father. Dart and Streak mainly play together, although Streak brushes against me sometimes to comfort me. They are getting on with life, which is what Dawn would have wanted.

Lynetttea called me a lot of times this morning before I felt like coming out. She said she hoped I would be alright. She said she doesn't think it would be a good idea to put more fish in the pond, as they might not fit in. She knows that fish have quite complex societies and a high intelligence. If you are interested there is a video talk on UTube about fish societies.

I will visit your blogs soon to thank you properly.

Dawn goes to the Rainbow Bridge

Our father and mentor Dawn passed to the Rainbow Bridge last night at the age of seventeen. We stayed on each side of him as he rested his fins on the floor of the pond. Lynettea told me she found us all in a row when she looked down in the twilight. Later she tried to put in a basket so Dawn could rest in that, but it didn't work out well and she had to take it out again. She was busy looking up things on the Internet to try to help Dawn.

We knew when he was gone from us and he was floating in a corner of The Pond this morning. Lynettea took him out with a big net and after the rain stopped she dug a grave for him in the garden near The Pond, beside a birdbath where the small birds sing and flutter and near a rosemary bush for Remembrance. She put some little slabs of slate on top of his burial mound.

Where is my dinner?

I am waiting for my friend Lynettea to sprinkle some food. Dawn says that the Food Bearer is not too reliable on time and he just patiently floats, floats, floats. He drifted in the sunshine at the bottom of the pond today. Yesterday evening we had The Pond Change of Water, which is a big event for us. We sink down as the water gets lower and when the fresh water comes in very slowly we adjust to it. It is hot again today, as it is summer.
Dawn says we are lucky to be in our cool water under the shade of the waterlilies. The earth plants are drying out. Lynettea carries water to them and also puts more water in The Pond nearly every day.

Cat patting Dolphin

A marvellous video of a cat and a dolphin. We can't work out whether it is a cat patting a dolphin, or a dolphin patting a cat. The dolphin must like the soft feel of the cat's fur, as it keeps rubbing against the top of the cat's head.
Thank you to Lynettea's friend for sending this link to her and letting us see it.

Dawn says he doesn't think he will be letting any cats pat him. He is swimming around with us now, but slowly.

Dawn swimming at the pond surface

Lynettea took some photos of Dawn swimming with me up near the surface of the pond. Maybe he is feeling better? Dawn has a big swishy tail, so you can see he is different from me. He didn't try to speak to my friend Lynettea, but she told me she was pleased to see him. He also ate some food this morning at the top of the water.

A message from Princess Aurora

I told my friend Lynettea that Dawn does not seem to wish to speak to her anymore. He isn't saying anything much to us and leaves us to our own games in the water. Lynettea is still trying to speak to Dawn. She leans over The Pond and calls out his name. If he sees her he ducks under the shelf, if he is in the open.
Now we are getting the sinking food we dive down to the bottom. The umbrella roof appeared this afternoon, so we know it will be a hot day tomorrow.

Lynette told me she is secretly hoping for the birth of a guardian kitten. We are not sure whether we would be pleased to have another cat.  We are now used to coping on our own and don't want any disruption.

First of all news of Dawn: he keeps to himself under the slate shelves, and only rarely comes out and swims around . We know there is something wrong and Lynettea is very worried about him. She walked a long way to the specialist Pet Barn to get sinking food for him so he can eat at the bottom of the pond. She thinks we are eating most of it. Sometimes Dawn peers up at her with his face sticking out from his position below the slate shelf, but he isn't swimming up to the surface to talk to her any more.
The rest of us are enjoying the warm weather, splashing in the water from our Dragon Guardian, playing chasies around the pond and admiring our first waterlily for the summer. It is so hot we all stay under the slate or leaf shelters in the middle of the day.
In the bottom photo you can see a little bit of our Christmas present duckweed. We have eaten nearly all of it now.
